After 46 years in Congress, former Union minister Ashwani Kumar quit the party

Amritsar: Amid the Punjab assembly elections, Congress has suffered another major setback. In fact, former Union Law Minister and Veteran Congress leader Ashwani Kumar has resigned from the party. Kumar has also ended his decades-old relationship with Congress by resigning from the party. Kumar, a former Union minister, has sent his resignation to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi. "He can serve the national interest better by staying outside the Congress."

Two generations of Ashwani Kumar have been associated with the Congress. Explaining the reason for his resignation, he said that there is a lack of leadership in the party," said Ashwani Kumar, adding that the Congress has been unable to re-establish itself and is constantly moving towards the ground. Ashwani Kumar further said that the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the recent controversies related to the Padma Bhushan of Ghulam Nabi Azad forced him to decide to leave the party. Kumar said that due to these incidents, he made up his mind to resign from the party. 

In his letter to Sonia, the former Union minister said, "After considering the matter, I have concluded that keeping in view the present situation and my dignity, I can serve the larger national problems in a better way by staying outside the party." Thus I am leaving the party after 46 years of long association.'
