Lucknow: A court in Lucknow has sent former mining minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for seven days in a money laundering case. Gayatri's custody will begin at 10 am on February 11. District Judge (III) Dinesh Kumar Sharma gave this order while accepting the application of ED. ED Special Counsel Kuldeep Srivastava on Wednesday debated the application. He said that Gayatri, as mining minister, has wrongly accumulated disproportionate assets.

In the initial inquiry by the ED, Gayatri has disclosed assets worth more than Rs.29.8 million. According to the ED, Gayatri is not cooperating in the investigation, while Gayatri has many firms, in which several crores of rupees have been invested. His son Anil Prajapati is the director of these companies. Many of his properties have been revealed in Amethi, Lonavala and Goa. Inquiry with Gayatri is necessary in this context.

The ED told the court that police custody of Gayatri should be granted for 10 days. On October 26, 2020, Vigilance filed a disproportionate assets case against Gayatri. On 14 January 2021, the ED also started an investigation on this basis. On Monday, Gayatri was sent to jail in judicial custody in this case. Gayatri is already in jail in a case of rape.
