Jaipur: Former PM and Rajya Sabha member Manmohan Singh arrived as a guest at a private university program in Jaipur. As soon as he came on stage, the students shouted Modi-Modi slogans. The former PM gave a speech on strengthening the roots of democracy in India. Manmohan Singh has been honored with the JKLU Laureate Award 2019. Describing the need to continue economic reforms in the program, Dr. Singh said that India can be made an economy of five thousand billion dollars only with a thoughtful strategy.

The former Prime Minister said in his address that poverty, social inequality, communalism, and religious fundamentalism and corruption are some of the major challenges before democracy. Dr. Singh said that at this time our economy seems to be slowing down. GDP growth rate is declining. The rate of investment is constant. Farmers are in trouble The banking system is facing a crisis. Unemployment is increasing. We need a well thought out strategy to make India a five thousand billion dollar economy.

He suggested that the government should stop tax terrorism, respect voices of differing views and bring balance to all levels of government. The former PM said that for our unity to remain intact, it is necessary that the government should provide an environment that respects different ideas along with justice, freedom, and equality. He said that we have to respect the supremacy of Parliament and its processes.
