Tokyo: Former Japan PM Yasuhiro Nakasone passed away at the age of 101. This information was given by sources on Friday. Nakasone served as the PM of Japan from November 1982 to November 1987. According to sources, Nakasone, a leader identified for supporting the expansion of Japan's defense provisions, died at a hospital in Tokyo around 7 am Friday, local time.

The former Japanese leader, considered a strong figure in politics, is known for his close ties with former US President Ronald Reagan during the 1980s, in terms of diplomacy. During his tenure, he worked for the privatization of Japan's national railway system.

Born in Takasaki City in Gunma Province in 1918, Nakasone entered the politics of Japan in 1947, gained a seat in Japan's House of Representatives or the lower house of parliament, and won 20 consecutive elections. Nakasone became a prominent figure in the Liberal Democratic Party. After which he retained his dominance in the politics of Japan.
