WASHINGTON: Four people were killed after the small planes they were travelling on collided in mid-air around noon at North Las Vegas Airport in the US state of Nevada, say officials.
The North Las Vegas Fire Department confirmed the fatalities following the tragedy, which happened on Sunday afternoon at the airport. "There have been four reported fatalities as of right now. Accident investigation is ongoing "the Fire Department of the City of North Las Vegas tweeted.
According to the Xinhua news agency, each aircraft had two passengers on board. The Piper PA-46 and Cessna 172N, both single-engine fixed-wing small planes, were involved in the disaster that occurred in Las Vegas, according to a tweet from the US National Transportation Safety Board.
As per preliminary data, the Piper PA-46 and Cessna 172 collided as the Piper was getting ready to land. According to the US Federal Aviation Administration, which was cited by the ABC affiliate KTNV-TV, a local television station in Las Vegas, the Piper crashed into a field east of Runway 30-Right, while the Cessna went into a water retention pond.
