KHARTOUM :  KHARTOUM: In a bid to build confidence  and settle a dispute between the two nations, Sudan has agreed to open the Galabat crossing on its border with Ethiopia. Sudan has determined to open the Galabat crossing on the border with Ethiopia to  resolve dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia

The security and defence council of Sudan resolved to open the Galabat border crossing as of today as part of efforts by the two nations' leaders to settle border difficulties, the council said in a statement on Sunday. To prevent the flow of armed elements across the border, the Council also resolved to increase border monitoring and enhance coordination between the two nations, according to the statement.

Asserting that the Ethiopian Army had killed seven Sudanese soldiers and a citizen on the shared eastern border, a claim Ethiopia rejected, Sudan chose to close the Galabat crossing on June 26. According to the Xinhua news agency, there have been violent clashes and escalating tensions along the Sudan-Ethiopia border since September 2020.

Sudan has accused the Ethiopian military of supporting farmers' seizure of Sudanese lands in the disputed al-Fashaga district on the border of the two neighbours.

Last June, Ethiopian militiamen captured and assassinated seven soldiers triggering a large military operation from the Sudanese army to retake the last Ethiopian settlement inside the claimed area.
