A local official reported four Katyusha rockets landed near a Turkish military post in Iraq's northern region of Nineveh, causing no casualties.
Unknown militants fired rockets at the Bashiqa base, which houses Turkish personnel in the Zlikan area, nearly 400 kilometres north of Baghdad, according to Mohammed Amin Gharib, the mayor of the Zlikan area. According to local report, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Iraq has accused Turkey of invading its land without permission on numerous occasions, notably Turkey's military deployment at the Bashiqa facility. On April 18, Turkish forces in northern Iraq launched a new ground and air offensive against the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Turkey has designated the PKK as a terrorist organisation, and it has been fighting the Turkish government for more than 30 years. Despite Iraq's concerns, Turkey conducts cross-border operations on PKK sites in northern Iraq on a daily basis.
