In the national capital Delhi, petrol has increased by 32 paise a litre in four days and diesel prices have gone up by 29 paise a litre in these three days. According to the Indian Oil website, petrol prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai rose on Sunday to Rs 70.37, Rs 72.63, Rs 76.06 and Rs 73.10 per litre respectively. The price of diesel in the four metros has also gone up to Rs 64.19, Rs 66.11, Rs 67.30 and Rs 67.90 per litre, respectively.

In the past, prices of petrol and diesel have been rising due to rising international crude prices as India imports about 84 per cent of its oil requirements. So, if crude oil is expensive in the global market, all petroleum products in India, including petrol and diesel, become costlier.
