From Fake News to Politics! Avi Dandiya's Journey to IOC Social Media Chief

New Delhi: On Saturday, September 23rd, prominent YouTuber Avi Dandiya made a significant announcement on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that he has assumed the role of Chief-in-Charge for the social media division of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC).

In a tweet, he expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you to Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Virendra Vashist, and all in Congress and Overseas Congress for appointing me as Chief In-Charge of IOC social media worldwide. Game on Pawan Khera and Supriya Shrinate."

Avi Dandiya added in another tweet, "Thank you so much, everyone. It's game time."

Notably, Avi Dandiya is known to have close ties to pro-Aam Aadmi Party vlogger Dhruv Rathee. However, his appointment to this political role raised eyebrows due to his past involvement in spreading fake news related to the Pulwama terror attack.

In March 2019, Delhi police registered a case against Avi Dandiya under Sections 465 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code. This action was taken after he shared a fabricated video, falsely claiming it to be a conversation between Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President Amit Shah, and an unidentified woman. In the video, the three individuals were purportedly discussing a 'plot' related to the Pulwama terror attack, which tragically took the lives of 44 CRPF soldiers on February 14, 2019.

The deceptive audio clip was created by manipulating parts of old interviews and audio clips of politicians, taken out of context to create the illusion of a telephonic conversation. Shortly after the Pulwama terror attack, Avi Dandiya conducted a poll on X (formerly Twitter), baselessly alleging that the attack was an inside job.

Prior to assuming his role as Chief-in-Charge of the social media division of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), Avi Dandiya was frequently seen praising Rahul Gandhi on social media platforms. In a tweet dated Thursday, September 21st, he commended Rahul Gandhi for his actions during a 'coolie stunt' at the Anand Vihar ISBT in Delhi.
