Lucknow: In Uttar Pradesh's Gonda, a woman named Tarannum faced the harsh reality of receiving a triple talaq from her husband, Mohammad Rashid, via WhatsApp. This drastic step was taken by Rashid in response to Tarannum's noble act of donating a kidney to save her brother's life.
Mohammad Rashid, who works in Saudi Arabia, reportedly became enraged over Tarannum's kidney donation and demanded a hefty amount of Rs 40 lakh from her. When Tarannum refused to comply with this demand, Rashid chose to end their marriage by sending her a triple talaq message on August 30. Tarannum and Rashid had been married for 20 years, but Rashid had moved to Saudi Arabia for work. Throughout their marriage, the couple faced challenges, including childlessness. According to Tarannum, Rashid later took a second wife.
The critical situation arose when Tarannum's brother, Mohd Shakir, suffered from kidney failure and required urgent treatment in Mumbai. In a selfless act, Tarannum underwent surgery to donate one of her kidneys to her ailing brother about five months ago. Despite the life-saving gesture, Tarannum's return to her in-laws' home in Gonda was marred by escalating conflicts with her husband, ultimately culminating in the triple talaq delivered via WhatsApp.
In the aftermath of this distressing incident, Tarannum has been compelled to live with her parents. Taking a stand against this injustice, she has filed a police case against her husband. Additional Superintendent of Police Radheshyam Rai has confirmed the registration of the case, assuring that necessary actions are being taken.
