Kolkata: TMC supremo and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's response to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee mocking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has surfaced. Instead of reprimanding her MP in this matter, she has placed the entire blame on former Congress National President Rahul Gandhi. Rahul has also issued a statement in his defense.

Reportedly, Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has stated that if Rahul Gandhi had not recorded Kalyan Banerjee's indecent actions on his mobile, such a significant issue would not have arisen. Mamata says that if Rahul had not uploaded the video, no one would have known about it. Furthermore, 'Didi' has also defended her party's MP Kalyan Banerjee. In Delhi, Mamata Banerjee stated, 'We respect all people. This (Kalyan Banerjee's act) was not intended to insult anyone. It should be taken politically in a light-hearted manner. You would never have known about this if Rahul ji had not recorded it.

On December 19, 2023, 49 opposition MPs who were disrupting the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were suspended. Subsequently, these MPs began protesting at the Makar Gate of the new Parliament. Meanwhile, TMC MP in Lok Sabha Kalyan Banerjee made fun of the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, with the video recorded by Rahul Gandhi on his mobile, showing MPs from all opposition parties laughing.

Kalyan Banerjee initiated this act, mocking Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar by imitating him. Other MPs present were seen laughing during this incident. Rahul Gandhi was also present and recorded the video, which later went viral on social media. However, Rahul Gandhi has defended himself in this matter following Mamata's statement. Rahul said, 'I did record the video of Kalyan Banerjee, but it is still on my phone, and I have not shared it anywhere.'

Mamata Banerjee made this statement in Parliament on December 20, 2023, during her visit to meet PM Modi. A day earlier, she attended the INDIA alliance meeting. When she went to meet Prime Minister Modi, she did not bring along MP Kalyan Banerjee, who had insulted the Vice President, even though his name was on the list of those who met PM Modi.

It's worth noting that TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee has not yet apologized for this act. The Jat community is highly displeased, demanding an apology from Kalyan Banerjee. A Jat community leader stated that if TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee does not apologize, they will stage protests outside the houses of TMC MPs. President Draupadi Murmu, PM Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed sorrow over the insult to the Vice President and condemned Kalyan Banerjee's actions. Vice President Dhankhar described it as an insult to his farmer background and the Jat community.
