Where will you get money to fulfil election promises? Only 2 parties ready to tell

New Delhi: Election promises made by political parties are in the eyes of the Election Commission these days. The Commission moved a proposal stating that every single party will also have to inform from where it will get the funds to fulfil its poll promise. However, it is worth noting that this proposal has been supported only by the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). That is, only these two parties have agreed to tell how they will fulfil their election promises and from where they will get the money.

Will make election promises, but will not tell the plan to fulfil them:-

At the same time, the country's oldest political party Congress has described this proposal as unnecessary and impractical and has also questioned the Election Commission about it. The Congress asked how the law would be implemented if a party failed to fulfil its poll promise. In its reply to the Commission, Congress said that fulfilling election promises depend on political will. With this, false promises are exposed in any case. According to those who have seen the response to the EC's proposal, the BJP's views match PM Narendra Modi's 'Freebie' remark. The BJP had sought further time from October 18 to file its reply. DMK, AAP and AIMIM have also reacted to this proposal like the Congress. That is, these parties want to make a lot of populist promises in the elections, but are not ready to tell how those promises will be fulfilled and where the money will come from for them.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has also opposed this proposal of the Election Commission. CPI(M) national general secretary Sitaram Yechury said, "Article 324 of the Constitution does not empower the Election Commission to evaluate the announcements and promises of political parties at the time of elections. The proposed amendment to the model code of conduct and an attempt to expose the financial implications of poll promises will lead to the Commission getting involved in political-policy matters, which do not come under its purview.''
