Mumbai: A Dominica Magistrate's Court has rejected the bail application of fugitive diamond baron Mehul Choksi in connection with his illegal entry into the country. With this, Choksi's lawyer Vijay Aggarwal now says he will approach the upper court in the matter. In fact, a petition filed by Choksi in the court claimed that he had been kidnapped and forcibly brought to this Caribbean island country. Recently, the High Court of Dominica had ordered that the fugitive businessman be produced before a magistrate's court to respond to allegations of his illegal entry into the country.

But now the matter is going to be looked after by the lower court. The next hearing on Choksi's case will be held on June 14. Let us also tell you that while rejecting Choksi's bail application, the prosecution has said, "Habeas corpus petition is not valid as he entered the country illegally and was later taken into custody".

Moreover, the extradition of Choksi, accused of cheating Punjab National Bank (PNB) of over 13,000 crore rupees to India, is scheduled to be heard in the High Court of Dominica today. In fact, Choksi mysteriously went missing from Antigua and Barbuda on May 23, where he has been living as a citizen since 2018. After all this, he was arrested on May 26 for illegally entering Dominica. It was believed that he had arrived here with his girlfriend.
