New Delhi: Spain's Vice President, Nadia Calvino, emphasized the utmost importance of multilateralism and global cooperation in addressing the challenges of climate change during the G20 Leaders' Summit on Saturday.

During a sideline conversation at the G20 Leaders' Summit following the inaugural session on "One Earth," Calvino remarked, "This morning's discussions have resoundingly called for the reinforcement of multilateralism and the belief in our collective capacity to collaborate effectively in confronting global issues like climate change."

The summit's conversations revolved around similar themes, notably the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 community. All participants unanimously pledged to uphold the environmental commitments established in Paris and other global summits. This unified commitment is expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming COP28 meeting, where critical decisions regarding climate change await deliberation.

Calvino stated, "In a unified procession, there was a shared commitment to honor the agreements forged in Paris and other international summits. We are committed to progressing toward our climate action targets and actively contributing to the forthcoming COP28 meeting, ensuring the fulfillment of our environmental financial commitments and the achievement of our objectives."

She added, "I am hopeful that tomorrow's communiqué will reflect our collective dedication to deploying renewable energy worldwide, reaching the peak of CO2 emissions by 2025, and steadfastly advancing towards the decarbonization of our economies."

The G20 continues to serve as a vital platform for global collaboration. In addition to its regular members, the summit extended invitations to nations such as Spain, facilitating enhanced high-level interactions between India and Spain and bridging gaps in their bilateral engagements.
