NEW DELHI: During a press briefing on September 7, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan highlighted the upcoming bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden at the G20 Summit 2023. The discussions are expected to focus on two significant issues: GE jet engines and civil nuclear technology.

Earlier this year, General Electric's aerospace division announced a collaboration with India's Hindustan Aeronautics, a state-owned enterprise, to jointly manufacture engines in India. These engines are intended for use in fighter jets for the Indian Air Force.

As part of his visit to India for the Group of 20 (G20) summit, President Biden aims to underscore the economic and security partnership between the United States and its like-minded allies, emphasizing their superiority over China in this regard.

One of the key proposals to be presented during the G20 summit is an initiative to boost the lending capabilities of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) by approximately $200 billion. This plan is designed to offer an alternative to China's extensive Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, which the US views as a cover for China's regional development and military expansion. Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping has chosen not to attend the summit, with Premier Li Qiang representing the nation instead.

Following the G20 summit, President Biden will meet with Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi. During this meeting, they are expected to unveil plans for enhanced economic collaboration between the two countries.

Leaders from the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have been diligently working on finalizing a joint infrastructure agreement. This agreement is likely to be announced in New Delhi and is expected to involve a combination of ship transit between India and Saudi Arabia, followed by train transit through Saudi Arabia and the UAE, potentially extending to Jordan. Subsequently, there will be ship transit to Turkey, with onward travel facilitated by train.

Although White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan couldn't confirm the specifics of the deal, he emphasized the strategic and economic advantages it could offer to all the involved nations. He stated, "We believe that establishing connectivity from India across the Middle East to Europe holds immense importance and would bring substantial economic and strategic benefits to all the countries involved."
