NEW DELHI: In preparation for the upcoming G20 Summit, the Delhi Traffic Police has imposed restrictions on the use of India Gate and Kartavya Path, designating the area as a 'Controlled Zone.' This means that activities such as walking, cycling, and picnics will not be permitted in this vicinity during the event.

Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. S. Yadav, clarified that while online delivery services for essential items will be allowed, popular food delivery platforms like Swiggy and Domino's will not be operational in New Delhi during the summit.

Media personnel holding G20 passes have been instructed to gather at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, from where they will be shuttled to the summit venue. It's important to note that media vehicles will not have access to the New Delhi district area during this period, as mentioned by the Special CP.

To facilitate the movement of the general public, the Traffic Police has recommended the use of the indigenous navigation app 'mapplemyindia.' This app is expected to provide easy navigation and directions for residents and visitors trying to reach their destinations amidst the summit-related restrictions.

In a significant move to accommodate the increased demand for public transportation during the G20 Summit, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora recently penned a letter to DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar. In his letter, he urged the DMRC to commence metro services as early as 4 a.m. from September 8 to 10. This adjustment in metro timings aims to ensure hassle-free travel for staff members and prompt reporting at the two primary G20 Summit venues: IECC/ITPO and Rajghat.

On a positive note, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) responded promptly to this request, announcing that it will indeed initiate metro services from 4 a.m. at the terminal stations of all metro lines. This extended service schedule will be in effect for three days, starting from Friday and continuing until September 10.

The G20 Summit is set to take place in the national capital on September 9 and 10. As preparations intensify, these measures aim to streamline traffic and transportation logistics for the smooth execution of the event.
