Then Bhagirath did penance to please Lord Shiva after listening to Mother Ganga. Pleased with the austerity of Bhagiratha, Lord Shiva put Ganga Ma in his jatas. At the same time, when the Ganges came to the earth, the barren land here became fertile and greenery started coming in every area, since then the festival of Ganga Dussehra started.
