New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir, the former Indian cricketer, is poised to take over from Rahul Dravid as the next head coach of Team India. Numerous reports suggest that Gambhir's appointment is nearing finalization, with an official announcement expected by the end of June 2024.

It is anticipated that Gambhir will assemble his own support staff, comprising a batting coach, bowling coach, and fielding coach. Presently, Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey, and T Dilip fulfill these roles respectively.

Having recently served as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir played a pivotal role in guiding the Shreyas Iyer-led team to their third IPL title. Prior to his stint with KKR, Gambhir was associated with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for two years.

With Rahul Dravid's contract set to conclude after the T20 World Cup, the incumbent head coach has confirmed that the 2024 edition of the tournament will be his final assignment with the Indian team. Dravid expressed his affection for the coaching role, emphasizing the enjoyment he derived from working with the team. However, he disclosed that due to personal considerations and scheduling constraints, he would not seek reapplication for the position.

Dravid remarked, "So yeah, obviously it’ll be my last one but having said that it’s no different for me to be very honest. From the first day I took the job, I always felt that every game was important and every game mattered and that will not change."
