New Delhi: Before the Test series against England starting on February 5, former India team opener Gautam Gambhir has given a statement about captain Virat Kohli's captaincy. Gambhir has said that he never questioned Kohli's captaincy in Test and ODI matches. Gambhir has also expressed the hope that under the captaincy of Kohli, the Indian cricket team will touch new heights.
It is noteworthy that Kohli will return as captain in the Test series against England. Virat Kohli was not on the team in the last three Tests against Australia. Kohli returned home after the Adelaide Test. In his place, Ajinkya Rahane took over the reins of Team India. Under Rahane's captaincy, Team India defeated Australia 2–1 at their home. When Gambhir was asked about the captaincy of Kohli in Star Sports' show game plan, he replied that I never questioned Virat Kohli on the captaincy of Test or ODI cricket. Gambhir also hoped that the Indian team under Kohli will progress strongly.
Gautam Gambhir said that I have always questioned Kohli's T20 captaincy. I did not comment on Test and ODI captaincy. Gambhir said that Team India under Kohli has shown a great game in Test cricket. Gambhir further said that Team India has never been dependent on one or two players and Kohli has often said these things. Gambhir said that Kohli is refreshing in the England series, it will benefit the team.
