BJP wins the election for the post of Bengaluru mayor, defeated Congress

Bengaluru: BJP has established power in Bengaluru Municipal Corporation after gaining power in Karnataka. BJP's M. Gautam Kumar has won the election for the post of Bangalore Mayor. He defeated Congress candidate and Dattatreya temple ward member RS Satyanarayana. Jogpalya ward member M. Gautam Kumar got 129 votes out of a total of 249 while the Congress candidate got 112 votes. M. Gautam Kumar is originally from Rajasthan and comes from Jain society.

CR Ram Mohan Raju, the councilor of Bommanahalli, BJP has been elected deputy mayor. He got 129 votes as against Jamsa's Gangamma Rajanna's 108 votes. Earlier in 2015, despite winning 101 out of 198 seats of the Greater Bangalore Metropolitan Municipality (BBMP), the BJP had to stay away from the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The BJP's rival Congress and JDS had an alliance in the BBMP.

This year, the coalition suffered a major setback when several MLAs from both parties rebelled and were disqualified by the then Speaker of the Assembly KR Ramesh Kumar. Five MLAs who were disqualified from Bengaluru city could not vote in this election. Congress MPs DK Suresh and Jairam Ramesh also failed to vote. CM BS Yeddyurappa said that after four years, BJP finally succeeded in getting the chair of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Now development work will gain momentum. However, there is a dispute over the election for his mayoral post.
