NEW DELHI: Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, on Wednesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power, is engaging in horse-trading to topple governments in states that are not under its control. He also claimed that democracy is eroding in the nation as a result of Hindutva.

"Throughout the name of Hindutva, democracy is deteriorating in the nation. People don't understand today, but they will come to regret it. While peace and order are still precarious and the economy is deteriorating, these people (the BJP) are engaging in horse-trading and toppling governments" Gehlot said in a press briefing.

"Everything has been reduced to humour. They were planning a conspiracy all along, and they had Maharashtra as their target, but it has only come to light. Amit Shah and PM Modi must lead the nation in accordance with the Constitution and refrain from becoming haughty " he added.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, asserted that the BJP's goal is to create a "Opposition-free India" at the federal level.
