MOSCOW: Both Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have emphasised the need of avoiding a war over Ukraine and resolving the problem through diplomatic means.

"Whether or not we desire this (war), we obviously do not. This is why we have proposed the commencement of a negotiation process in order to obtain an agreement that ensures everyone's security "Following their talks in the Kremlin, Putin remarked during a press conference with Scholz.
