BERLIN On March 11, Germany will formally adopt the National Day of Remembrance for Terrorist Violence Victims, according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI).

According to reports, the day of remembering is to honour the victims of the terrorist attacks in Madrid on March 11, 2004, in which 191 people died and more than 2,000 were injured. Previously, the European Union held an annual commemoration on such a day.

Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser said, "This day will be a day of mourning, compassion, but also a reminder to act with all commitment against terrorist threats."  One of the key missions of the federal government, according to the BMI, is to combat extremism and terrorism, as well as anti-constitutional and violent aspirations. Flags at official federal buildings around the country will now be flown at half-mast on this day.

Terrorist assaults in Germany, according to Faeser, have drastically altered the lives of many individuals. "Many people are battling valiantly to reclaim their lives. We must not abandon them in this situation "she stated.
