Twenty sets of nominations were filed from 17 candidates on the first day of filing nominations for the December 1 GHMC elections. Six of the 20 nominations were filed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), five Telugu Desam Party (TDP), three congress and two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one by recognized political party and three independent candidates. Four of the 17 candidates who filed nominations are for The Kapra Circle, three for Uppal Circle, one to Saroor Nagar, two to Santosh Nagar, two to RC Pura, one for Kukatpalli, one for Kutbulpur and two for Malkajgiri.

Returning officers are receiving nominations from 10 am to 3 pm. Two persons are allowed along with the candidate for nomination submission. The number of vehicles for nomination purpose is also limited to two. Meanwhile, state Election Commissioner C Partha Sarathi said that general observers will play a key role in the conduct of the elections and the SEC will initiate action based on their reports. At a meeting with election observers here on Wednesday, the election commission representatives said that the observers would perform duties from filing nomination to the results.

Observers should submit their reports directly to the SEC. According to reports, especially in respect of the day of the poll and the day of counting, the SEC will decide on explaining or declaring the results, and observers should closely monitor the arrangements at polling stations, the expenditure of candidates and other factors. Help the elections run smoothly.
