New Delhi: Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior member of the Congress party, resigned from all of the party's posts, including the primary membership, in a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday.

In his letter of resignation to Sonia Gandhi, Azad stated that the Indian National Congress has "lost both the will and the competence under the tutelage of the conterie that runs the AICC to fight for what is right for India." Azad wrote in a 5-page resignation letter, "I have consequently chosen to dissolve my half-century-old relationship with the Indian National Congress with profound grief and an extremely leaden heart."

After the elections for the Congress President were deferred, the most prominent member of the Congress party recently left the party. Azad's departure comes after a slew of prominent party figures, including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jaiveer Shergil, and Jitin Prasada, among others, have left the organisation.

This change occurs only a few weeks after Azad abruptly resigned as Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Congress campaign committee, hours after being appointed to the position. As per sources, Azad had thanked the leadership of the Congress for the opportunity but had declined to take on the position of Chairman of the campaign committee due to "health issues."

After the Congress leadership reorganised the whole unit, dissenting voices within the J&K section of the Congress reached a crescendo, prompting Azad to act. "We are dissatisfied since senior leaders were not consulted prior to choosing the J&K PCC chief. We have resigned from the party coordination committee in opposition to the PCC chief's most recent statements. I am no longer a primary member of the Congress "declared Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, a former Congress legislator.

It is important to note that Ghulam Nabi Azad is one of the 23 leaders who publicly advocated for the Congress to change its leadership and stop depending on the Gandhi family for all major party decisions.
