The country's famous writer, playwright, actor, activist and film director Girish Karnad died at the age of 81 years. Girish Karnad was chronically ill. Girish Karnad has said goodbye to the world today due to multi-organ failure on Monday. The news of Karnad's demise has also shocked the people of literature and film fraternity.

Girish Karnad was born on 19 May 1938 in Maharashtra. Karnad had also appeared in all the South films with Bollywood. He has also worked in classic serials like Malgudi days for TV. In the year 1998, Girish was honoured with the highest Jnanpith award of literature. While he was also conferred with awards like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his outstanding work.
