Panaji: Sometime Goa Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar has accused the Congress of falsely projecting the BJP as a communal party. In an interview, Kavlekar said that the BJP is committed to development and takes everyone along. For information, let us know that Kavlekar was among the 10 Congress MLAs who joined BJP in July this year. After joining hands with BJP, he was included in the cabinet headed by Pramod Sawant and was appointed Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

When asked about this, he said that I spent 22 years of my political career in Congress. Its leaders are always spreading misconceptions about BJP that it is a communal party. He kept this idea in the minds of his leaders. Kavlekar said that when he and nine of his other associates, including eight people of Christianity, joined the BJP earlier this year, they saw a different picture than that portrayed by the Congress.

At the same time, Kavlekar said that some leaders in the Goa Congress unit were busy fulfilling their interests, due to which the party was unable to form a government in 2017 even though it emerged as the single largest party in the state elections. In the assembly elections in the 40-seat state in 2017, BJP had 13 and Congress 17 seats. However, the BJP managed to form the government with the support of regional organizations like Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independents. Kavlekar said that some senior Congress leaders, who have enjoyed their share of power, are not ready to please others. He said that all the 10 MLAs who have shifted from Congress to BJP will remain connected with the saffron party till their retirement.
