Goa formulates Organic farming to preserve fertile soil

PANAJI: Goa government has formulated two schemes - "Promotion of Organic farming" and "development of manures and fertilizers, to preserve the fertile cultivable soil in the state for agricultural purposes, Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik informed the Assembly.

In a written reply, Naik said that the "development of manures and fertilizers", and "Promotion of Organic farming"  are the two schemes implemented in the state.

congress legislative member Rodolfo Fernandes had asked about the plans to preserve the fertile cultivable soil and measures taken in that regard.

"The Government has framed Schemes for the preservation of fertility of soil, and the schemes are implemented for preservation of soil fertility," Naik said.
It further said that steps like promotion of Organic farming with components such as help for procuring of Organic inputs, Organic farming Demonstration, help for conservation of traditional seed items for Organic farming and assistance for establishing of organic and Bio inputs production units has been taken.

In addition, farmers are urged to generate model Organic farms and Promotion of Local farmer's markets. 

with regard to the development of manures and fertilizers, the government is providing assistance for soil samples, assistance for use of soil Conditioners, assistance for use of Micronutrients, and for the installation of Biogas plants and Organic Manure Unit. "Government is also supporting assistance for Installation of Vermicompostst Unit," Naik said.
