Panaji: In view of the new strain of coronavirus, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday urged tourists to take precautions. Addressing the media after leading the high-level meeting, Minister Rane said that, despite appeals to wear masks repeatedly and maintain social distancing, people are not taking precaution.

He further added, 'Tourists should feel that although they are here to enjoy, they should follow security measures. I noticed that 60% of the people at the airport did not wear masks'. Rane also said, 'We as a state need to be vigilant. We want the people of Goa to be safe. Business activities continue, but people need to take precaution. Goa is not a banana republic. '

He said that night clubs would have to ensure strict implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), otherwise, action would be taken against them. He further said that the health department will propose to increase the fine to Rs 500 for those who do not apply masks. By not following the Corona rules, people are endangering the lives of others, including doctors and health workers, and putting a burden on the health infrastructure in the state.
