Gola Gokarnanath bypoll: Akhilesh Yadav's first test after Mulayam's departure

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on October 10 at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. After his departure, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is going to have his first major test in the by-election to the Gola Gokarnanath assembly seat in UP. Campaigning in this seat will end at 5 pm on Tuesday. Seven candidates are in the fray. BJP and SP have put their dynamism into the election campaign. While the BJP fielded 40-star campaigners for campaigning in the Gola assembly constituency, the SP has also assigned 39-star campaigners.

At the same time, with the election campaign stopped, the administration has completed preparations for the elections. This by-election is being held due to the death of Mla Arvind Giri from here. In the by-election, the BJP Arvind Giri's son Aman Giri has been given the ticket, while the SP has fielded former MLA Vinay Tiwari. Apart from this, five more candidates are in the fray in the by-election. Campaigning will end at 5 pm on November 1. Polling parties will leave on November 2. Voting will be held on November 3. The BJP has given full strength in this by-election.

Apart from Deputy Chief Ministers Brijesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, about 16 ministers and ministers of state are engaged in campaigning. On Monday (October 31), CM Yogi Adityanath also addressed a rally at the Public Inter College ground in Gola. The BJP has fielded 40-star campaigners in the bypoll. At the same time, many former ministers and MLAs, including the president of the SP state unit, reached Gola Assembly and campaigned.
