Kochi: Swapna Suresh, the main abused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, who was granted bail earlier this month,  received further relaxations today and was allowed to leave the Ernakulam area.

Swapna, who lives in the capital district, can now travel outside of Ernakulam district, but not outside of Kerala, according to a recent relaxation of her bail conditions. On November 2, she was granted bail by the Kerala High Court after over 16 months in prison.

The bail was granted in a case filed by the National Investigation Agency against her, and because she had already obtained bail in other instances, she was permitted to leave prison early this month. On July 5, 2020, Customs detained Sarith, a former employee of the UAE Consulate here, for allegedly smuggling gold in diplomatic luggage bound for the Consulate. The NIA detained Swapna Suresh, who had worked in the UAE Consulate, and her partner Sandip Nair from Bengaluru a few days later.
