Patna: In order to give the benefit of reservation to married women, the government has issued new rules in Bihar. Under the new rules, women living outside Bihar after marriage can also take advantage of reservation. But there is a condition for this that the woman will get a reservation on the basis of her father's local address (Bihar) instead of her husband's. In Bihar, women have 35 per cent reservation in government jobs. The government may issue advertisements for about four lakh posts of contract teachers in a phased manner within a year.

In this regard, the General Administration Department issued a letter on September 2. It was said in this letter that the Bihar government has clarified its position on whether a married woman can get the benefit of reservation on the basis of her father's caste or not. The letter said, "Women whose father is a local resident of Bihar cannot be denied the benefit of reservation merely on the ground that their residential certificate has been issued on the basis of their husband's residential address."

In the letter of GAD, it was clarified that the basis of availing reservation would be decided on the basis of the caste of the woman's father. Bihar Deputy Secretary Rajnish Kumar, in a letter to the heads of all government departments, referred to the order of the 1996 government, In which there is a provision to be a local resident of Bihar to take advantage of reservation. The 2007 order of the state government has also been mentioned in this letter to decide on the caste of the applicant. Let us tell you that most of the women use their husband's residential address for work and most of these women get married outside their caste. For this, the state government has decided that the local address and caste of the father will be considered as the basis for giving the benefit of reservation to married women. Any married female candidate will have to produce a non-creamy layer certificate issued by the circle office falling under her father's village or town in order to avail of the benefits of reservation.
