There has been good news for senior citizens amid the corona epidemic. Banks had announced a special fixed deposit scheme for senior citizens whose deadline expired on June 30. But now many banks have announced an extension of the deadline by three months till September 30. the country's largest public sector bank SBI, HDFC Bank and Bank of Baroda have extended the deadline till September 30.

Relief for Senior Citizens:-
SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and (Bank Of Baroda) Bank of Baroda had launched a special FD scheme for senior citizens. Under this, banks had introduced special FD schemes for senior citizens for a tenure of 5 years or more. In these schemes, senior citizens get higher interest than common FDs. It may be recalled that most banks offer higher interest rates to senior citizens. But in a particular FD, the benefit of additional interest rate is being given at that interest rate.

SBI VCare Deposit Special FD Scheme:-
The country's largest public sector bank SBI announced the SBI VCare Senior Citizens Term Deposit Scheme for senior citizens in May 2020. Under this, senior citizens will get interest at a rate of 0.80% higher on FDs for a period of more than 5 years. At present, the general public is getting interest at the rate of 5.40 percent on a 5-year FD. However, senior citizens will get interest at the rate of 6.20 percent on FDs for a period of more than 5 years under the special scheme.

Bank of Baroda Special FD Scheme:-
BoB is offering 100 basis points. 1% higher interest to senior citizens under the Special Senior Citizens FD Scheme. The bank is offering interest to senior citizens at an annual rate of 6.25% on FD from 5 years to 10 years. This scheme is a good scheme for senior citizens.
