Good train derails in Andhra Pradesh, 9 trains cancelled

VIJAYAWADA: Nine trains were cancelled early on Wednesday due to a cargo train that derailed close to the Rajahmundry railway station in Andhra Pradesh.

At around three in the morning, the goods train derailed on the main line at Rajahmundry yard, said South Central Railway officials from the Vijayawada Division.

The railway officials only permitted train travel on one track after the event. Nine trains have been cancelled as a result of this. One train was rescheduled, and two other trains were just partially cancelled.

The following trains have been cancelled: Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, Guntur-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Guntur, Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur, Guntur-Vijayawada, and Kakinada Port-Vijayawada.

The Kakinada Port-Vijayawada train between Kakinada town and Vijayawada was also partially cancelled, according to the railway authorities. There has been a partial cancellation of the Vijayawada-Rajahmundry train between Tadepalligudem and Rajahmundry.

The train from Vijayawada to Lingampalli has been moved by two hours.

The Southern railway officials also announced partial cancellation of Kakinada Port-Vijayawada train between town Kakinada and Vijayawada. Vijayawada-Rajahmundry train has been partially cancelled between Tadepalligudem and Rajahmundry.

The reason for the accident was not immediately established, even though a team of officials from Vijayawada deployed to the spot to carry out restoration works, official sources mentioned.
