Google Chrome is rolling out a new update designed to give users greater control over their notifications. The latest feature includes an “Instant Unsubscribe” option directly within notifications, making it easier to opt out of unwanted site alerts without navigating through settings.

Currently, this feature is available on Google Pixel devices, with plans to extend it to other Android smartphones soon. Users will now find an “Unsubscribe” button within notifications. Tapping this button will instantly stop notifications from that site, though each notification must be handled individually.

To prevent accidental unsubscribing, Chrome includes an “Undo” function. This allows users to reverse the action if they mistakenly unsubscribe from a site they actually want notifications from.

In addition to the new unsubscribe feature, Chrome is enhancing its Safety Check functionality. This feature will now operate automatically in the background, monitoring sites for deceptive practices in notification permissions. Sites identified by Google Safe Browsing as misleading will have their notification permissions revoked.

The improved Safety Check will notify users about actions it has taken, such as revoking permissions from sites that are no longer visited or flagging unwanted notifications. It will also alert users to any security issues that need attention.

Another notable update allows users to grant permissions, such as access to a camera or microphone, on a one-time basis. These permissions will be automatically revoked when users leave the site, ensuring that sites cannot access these features again until explicitly permitted.

These updates are designed to enhance user control over notifications and improve overall web security, leading to a more streamlined and secure browsing experience.
