Marking the nation's 77th Independence Day, Google has chosen to honor the occasion on Tuesday by featuring a unique doodle that showcases textiles from 21 distinct regions.

As India commemorates its 77th year of Independence today, Google has embraced the significance of the day through a special doodle that beautifully highlights textiles originating from 21 diverse regions. The Google Doodle exhibits a charming montage of India's rich textile heritage. Crafted by the skilled hands of Namrata Kumar, an artist based in New Delhi, this artwork has drawn inspiration from a plethora of India's textile traditions, interweaving these diverse "swatches" into a lively portrayal of the nation.

In a post on the Google Doodle platform, the search giant divulged the artist's vision and the inspiration that led to this commemorative masterpiece. The doodle art captures fragments of weaving artistry sourced from Gujarat's Kutch embroidery, Odisha's delicate 'ikat' technique, Jammu and Kashmir's intricate 'Pashmina kani' woven textiles, as well as Kerala's elegant 'Kasavu' weave. These textiles, representing regions spanning the entire country, are harmoniously arranged in a textile grid formation. At the center of this artistic arrangement, the word 'GOOGLE' emerges, adorned with embroidered letters. Artist Kumar, in a statement on Google's portal, shared her extensive research into identifying India's diverse textile craft forms.

Today's Doodle pays tribute to India's Independence Day. On this historic day in 1947, a new chapter commenced as India liberated itself from British colonial rule, as highlighted by Google. Symbolic of this inaugural day of independence, an annual flag-raising ceremony takes place at Delhi's Red Fort, graced by the presence of the prime minister. During this event, citizens join in singing the national anthem and commemorate the leaders of the independence movement, as beautifully outlined by Google.
