The food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy have received a notice from Google for violating the Play Store Guidelines and Zomato called it ‘Unfair’. The two companies were involved in promoting cashback schemes through fantasy sports features. “We are a small company and have already realigned our business strategy to comply with Google’s guidelines. We will be replacing Zomato Premier League with a more exciting program by this weekend”, sources from Zomato were quoted saying.

The sources said, swiggy did not comment on the notice but stopped its in-app gaming feature.  Sources from swiggy said, “Earlier the notice was to comply with the guidelines by Thursday, but Google has given an extension. Swiggy has also asked for more clarity on Google’s Policies”. In-app gamification was a part of Swiggy and Zomato‘s IPL campaign and they do not have separate gaming platforms.

Prior to this incident, Google pulled down Paytm because it violated the guidelines related to online gambling and contests on the app. The platform removed Paytm for few hours for violating Google play’s terms. After few modifications, Paytm app came back to the store within few hours.”We don’t allow online casinos or support any unrelated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads customers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies”, said Google.
