One year after the release of Nest Wi-Fi system Google re-released its original Google Wi-Fi mesh router on October 6, 2020. Google Wi-Fi is simply a router priced $99 like a normal router where all other gadgets like smartphones, tabs, laptops, computers can be connected. Google Wi-Fi creates a ‘Mesh’ network that covers multiple devices spread throughout the home, with high-speed wireless internet. The devices are able to seamlessly roam between mesh network points, ensuring the best possible connection strength.
The provision to add ‘Guest Network’ for family and friends is enabled, in addition to the primary Wi-Fi network. Google Wi-Fi was originally released back in 2016 and Nest Wi-Fi succeeded it last year. The New Google Wi-Fi is powered by a traditional DC barrel jack rather than USB-C. Google Assistant, Google Apps, and Services integration are the same in Google Wi-Fi and Nest Wi-Fi. The difference is in the hardware. Google Wi-Fi can approximately cover 1,500 square feet area in AC1200 signal and gives an app speed of 1200Mbps. Nets Wi-Fi is a two or more part system, consists of a base router and covers 2,200 square feet in the AC2200 signal imparting 2200Mbps in perfect condition. Google Wi-Fi comes with an Ethernet port that can be used to hardware devices into the network.
The re-released Google Wifi costs $99, with a three-pack running $199. Google Wi-Fi is the most affordable way to cover your home with a strong Wi-Fi signal, with a provision of deep integration with the Google Assistant. The new Google Wi-Fi is available at e-commerce portals Amazon, Best Buy, and Google Store, so far only in the United States.
