In order to prevent journalists from being the victim of fake news, Google India has said on Tuesday that it will train 8,000 journalists in India for the next one year. Under this, the Google News Initiative India Training Network will select 200 journalists from cities across the country, who will improve their skills of verification and training in a five-day training camp. This camp will be organized for six other Indian languages including English.

Two days, one day and half-day workshops will be organized for journalists by this network of certified trainers. Google India said in a statement that training workshops will be organized in the cities of India in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada. The aim of this training is to enable journalists to investigate facts and enable online verification, for which courses created by experts of First Draft, Storyful, Altenews, Boom live etc will be used. This will result in the more appropriate news and better journalism.

Google News Lab chief Eeran Jay Liu said, "Supporting reliable, authoritative media sources is a top priority for Google, this is the reason why we have to support journalists in our fight against misunderstanding in India. It is proud to cooperate with Boomlive."
