Itanagar: The assembly election results for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim were announced on June 4, just two days before the Lok Sabha elections. In Sikkim, the Chief Minister and his council of ministers have already taken their oaths of office. In contrast, the formation of the government in Arunachal Pradesh is still pending, despite the Modi government being sworn in at the national level and ministerial portfolios being distributed.

On Tuesday, the BJP parliamentary board appointed MP Ravi Shankar Prasad and leader Tarun Chugh as party observers for Arunachal Pradesh. However, the date for their visit to Itanagar has not yet been determined.

The BJP, which currently holds power in Arunachal Pradesh, secured a decisive victory, winning 46 out of the 60 assembly seats. The National People's Party (NPP), an ally of the BJP, won 5 seats, giving the NDA a total of 51 seats in the assembly. Pema Khandu, who has been the Chief Minister since 2016, is a leading candidate to retain his position.

BJP state president Biyuram Wahge informed the media that Chief Minister Pema Khandu, along with other MLAs and BJP leaders, attended the central government's swearing-in ceremony. He stated that they are awaiting the return of these leaders and the arrival of the observers from the high command. Once they arrive, the process of electing the leader of the legislative party and preparing for the swearing-in will begin. No specific date has been set yet.

Congress state president Nabam Tuki criticized the delay in forming the new government, stating that it is detrimental to the state's development and administration. He attributed the delay to the BJP's internal processes, noting that the state unit cannot act without instructions from the central leadership.

Earlier, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Kaivalya Parnaik dissolved the assembly on June 2 and requested Chief Minister Pema Khandu to continue in his role until the new government is established.
