Government lifts ban on export of hydroxy chloroquine

On Thursday, the government lifted the ban on the export of hydroxychloroquine, a drug used to treat malaria, with immediate effect. In the wake of Corona infection epidemic, the government had completely banned the export of this medicine on 25 March. This drug is also considered effective in the treatment of corona infections.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DFFT) said in a notification, "The export policy of hydroxy chloroquine API and its formulations is exempted from the prohibition with immediate effect." The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine to treat health workers caring for cases of corona infection. Please tell that the use of this medicine has also been advised for those who have come in contact with the infected. US President Donald Trump called hydroxy chloroquine a game changer in the fight against covid-19. Even though the export of this drug was banned, India had supplied it to many countries with its global commitment to combat the corona infection epidemic.


Apart from this, the Union Health Ministry had issued a new therapeutic Protacol for treatment of infected patients, in which it was suggested to give hydroxy chloroquine, a drug given in the treatment of malaria to the patients in the initial stage of infection. Is that the malarial drug hydroxy chloroquine is not effective in preventing the death of hospitalized people after being infected with the corona virus. However, WHO also says that this drug may have a role in preventing people from becoming vulnerable to covid-19 infection.
