TV's popular mythological show 'Ramayan' was Ramanand Sagar's most successful show. The show gained such popularity in 1987 that all its characters were worshiped as Ram-Sita in real life as well. Even today people know all the characters of this show by their on-screen roles more than by their real names. 

However, do you know that Ramanand Sagar had to visit government offices for 2 years when this mythological show, which created panic on TV in the 80s, was telecasted on Doordarshan. Yes, Ramanand Sagar's son Prem Sagar told in his book 'An Epic Life: Ramanand Sagar from Barsaat to Ramayana that it was not easy for Ramanand Sagar to get telecast of 'Ramayana' on Doordarshan channel. From the owner of Doordarshan to the government, everyone tried their best to ban this. Nobody liked Ramanand Sagar's idea of ​​making a show on 'Ramayana'. Ramanand had made 3 pilot episodes of 'Ramayana' and all three were rejected. There came a time when Ramanand got upset. One, their time was going and on top of that money was also being spent. 

However, Ramanand was not one to give up. He faced a lot of humiliation to clear this project, people made fun of the dialogues of 'Ramayana', he had to stand outside the office for hours, but he stuck to his dream. His hard work paid off when Doordarshan passed the project. Ramanand Sagar had heaved a sigh of relief, but his difficulties did not end here. The next challenge for him was to convince the government. Ramanand kept persuading the government and Doordarshan for two years. Agreed to Doordarshan, then Ramanand left to persuade the government. Then came a time When his dream came true. The same when Ajit Kumar Panja sat on the chair of Information and Broadcasting Minister in 1986, he gave green signal to this project of Ramanand Sagar and then in 1987 its telecast was started. At that time 'Ramayana' broke all the records of success. People used to watch 'Ramayana' on television leaving all the work at the fixed time in every house. Those who did not have television, they used to enjoy this show sitting in other's house. Due to the lockdown in the year 2020, Ramayana was also telecasted and this show was included in the list of most watched mythological shows even at that time.
