Bollywood actor Govinda on the Marathi comedy show Chala Hawa Yeu Dya said that he had spotted Sonali Bendre first.

According to the actor when he was on his way to his home, Sonali came to him and said, "Namaskar Govinda, main Sonali Bendre. He told her, ‘Aap bahut khoobsurat hai, aap heroine banana chahti hai? Aajaiye set par, aaj aap kaam karengi mere saath.’"

However, Sonali's spokesperson rubbished this report by saying, "Sonali started out as a model before being selected for the Star Dust Talent Search. She was to be launched in a film called Ram to be produced by Sohail Khan, but she made her debut with his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri in Naraaz."
