NEW DELHI: The Indian government has approved the 'Agnipath' scheme for youth recruitment in the Armed Forces, bringing a  transformative reform for youth.  The youths selected under this programme will be known as 'Agniveers.' Agnipath is a programme that permits patriotic and determined young people to serve in the Armed Forces for four years.

"Under the Agnipath initiative, Indian youngsters will be provided an opportunity to serve in the armed services as Agniveers," Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated when unveiling the scheme. Agniveers will receive a monthly package that is tailored to their needs, as well as risk and hardship allowances for each of the three services. Agniveers will be paid a one-time 'SevaNidhi' package at the conclusion of the four-year engagement period, which will include their contribution, plus accrued interest, as well as a matching contribution from the government equivalent to the accumulated amount of their contribution, including interest.

The 'Seva Nidhi' will be income tax-free. There will be no entitlement to benefits such as gratuities or pensions. For the term of their engagement in the Indian Armed Forces, Agniveers would be supplied with a non-contributory Life Insurance Coverage of Rs 48 lakh.

"After Agniveer's tenure, the avenues and opportunities for their advancement in the civil world will undoubtedly be a huge bonus for country building.  Furthermore, the 'Seva Nidhi' of almost Rs 11.71 lakh would allow the Agniveer to follow his or her future aspirations without financial constraints, which is usually the case for young people from financially disadvantaged backgrounds "According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense.

The Agnipath programme was created to give the Armed Forces a more youthful look. It will give young people who want to wear the uniform the chance to do so by drawing young talent from the community who are more in tune with current technology trends and returning skilled, disciplined, and motivated manpower to society.
