New Delhi: On Army Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the Indian Army for its courage, professionalism, and devotion to duty, reiterating his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of armed forces personnel and their families.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, "Today, on Army Day, we salute the unshakeable bravery of the Indian Army, which serves as the guardian of our nation’s security. We also honor the sacrifices of the brave souls who ensure the safety of millions of Indians every day."
He highlighted that the Indian Army represents resilience, professionalism, and dedication. Besides securing the nation’s borders, the Army has also earned recognition for its humanitarian efforts during natural calamities, he added.
"Govt committed to the welfare of the armed forces and their families. Over the years, we have introduced numerous reforms and prioritised modernisation. This focus will continue in the future," PM Modi assured.
President and PM Extend Army Day Greetings
Leaders across political parties, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi, expressed their gratitude on Army Day, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
President Droupadi Murmu's message on X, read, "On Army Day, I extend my greetings to Indian Army veterans, personnel, and their families. Your steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring its security is truly inspirational. The nation is deeply grateful for your countless sacrifices in service of the motherland."
She added, "Your humanitarian contributions during crises and disasters showcase your compassion and kindness. May your extraordinary valor and courage continue to inspire generations ahead!"
Significance of Army Day
Army Day is observed annually to commemorate the historic moment in 1949 when General K M Cariappa, who later became Field Marshal, assumed the position of Army Chief from General F R R Bucher, becoming the first Indian to hold this esteemed role.
