THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has received financial support of 145.17 crore from the Finance Department. The aid has been approved as a payback to a consortium of co-operative banks for the payment of employee pensions. Previously, the Finance Department had approved a budget of 30 crore for the payment of employee salaries.

However, the KSRTC management has requested an additional 35 crore to cover employee salaries. Employees of the Corporation have been staging a fast in front of the KSRTC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram in protest of the uncertainty surrounding salary disbursement. Staff unions called the walkout after a meeting between KSRTC CMD and employee unions on the issue of salary disbursement before June 5th failed to produce any outcomes.

Meanwhile, the Transport Democratic Federation (TDF), which is led by the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), has chosen to strengthen the protest by starting a relay hunger strike on Monday.
