NEW DELHI: In a momentous stride towards gender inclusivity, the Government has taken a pioneering step by appointing Jaya Verma Sinha as the inaugural woman to assume the prestigious roles of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairperson of the Railway Board. This watershed decision was officially declared by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on the 31st of this month.

The highly esteemed Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has bestowed its endorsement upon Smt. Jaya Verma Sinha, an accomplished member of the Indian Railway Management Services (IRMS), who has held the distinguished position of Member (Operations & Business Development) on the Railway Board. Her appointment to the exalted positions of Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board has been sanctioned at the Apex scale [Pay Level -17, as per the 7th Central Pay Commission], marking a historic milestone in the annals of the organization.

With her formal assumption of office slated for the 1st of September, 2023, Smt. Jaya Verma Sinha's tenure is set to extend until her superannuation date. This remarkable decision by the ACC also encompasses her re-employment on the said posts from the 1st of September, 2023, through to the 31st of August, 2024. The terms and conditions of her re-employment mirror the customary norms, or until such time when further orders may be issued, whichever occurs earlier, as succinctly stated in the official announcement.
