Govt Rewards Paris Paralympics Medalists with Cash Prizes

On Tuesday, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced significant cash awards for Indian athletes who excelled at the Paris Paralympics. Gold medalists will receive Rs.75 lakh, silver medalists Rs.50 lakh, and bronze medalists Rs.30 lakh. Athletes who competed in mixed team events will be awarded Rs.22.5 lakh. This announcement was made during a ceremony to honor the medalists.

Mandaviya expressed his commitment to supporting para-athletes as they aim for even greater success in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. He highlighted the growth of Indian Paralympians, noting the country's progress from winning four medals in 2016 to 19 medals in Tokyo and 29 in Paris, where India secured 18th place.

"We will provide all the necessary facilities to our para-athletes to help them achieve more medals and golds in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics," Mandaviya said.

The Indian Paralympians showcased an exceptional performance at the Paris Games, winning 29 medals: seven gold, nine silver, and 13 bronze. This achievement marks India’s best performance to date and pushes the country past the 50-medal milestone in Paralympic history.

The medal winners were warmly celebrated by hundreds of supporters on Tuesday.
