The state assembly provided another update, noting that six cough syrup producers in Maharashtra had their licences suspended for breaking the law. This information was provided in the Assembly by Food and Pharmaceuticals Administration Minister Sanjay Rathod in response to a calling attention notice from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ashish Shelar and others.

At the assembly, Rathod declared that 84 out of 108 cough syrup producers in the state were the subject of an investigation by the Maharashtra government. Six companies' licences were suspended, while orders were given to four of them to cease manufacturing, he claimed. According to the minister, up to 17 enterprises received show-cause notices for breaking the guidelines.

In his speech, he also made mention of a recent arrest by the Noida Police in relation to cough syrup produced by a company with headquarters in Uttar Pradesh, which is suspected of being responsible for the deaths of 18 children in Uzbekistan last year. He also mentioned the 66 children who purportedly died in the Gambia as a result of Indian-imported cough syrups.

"But, we have penalised those who break the law severely. We are making sure that while exporting goods (from the state), the rules associated with the World Health Organization's GMP (good manufacturing practises) certification and Certificate of Pharmaceutical Products are followed " he said.

Government employees in Karnataka halted their indefinite strike earlier on Wednesday after the State administration proposed a 17 percent increase in basic pay as a temporary solution and established a committee to look into the pension system. The employees had requested temporary relief in the form of a 40% boost in basic pay as well as compensation revisions in accordance with the 7th Pay Commission.

Employees of local government entities under state control as well as workers of government-supported educational institutions will be subject to the decree. Also, the government has announced raising the State government employees' basic pension by 17% beginning April 1, 2023.

The government responded to their demand that the New Pension System (NPS) be eliminated and the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) restored by stating that the committee under the Additional Chief Secretary would examine the viability.
