New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday called for a 10% increase in India's share of global trade and a 25% increase in the country's export share of GDP.

Goyal was speaking at the Post-Budget Webinar's closing session on "Make in India for the World." He said: "These are lofty goals, but I believe they are achievable. Other countries are now discussing programmes that are comparable to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. And I believe there is no better testament to the importance and success of this vision than the fact that the rest of the world now wishes to replicate India's achievement."

Goyal urged for India to be among the top three countries in terms of global services trade. He advocated for MSMEs to be supported in international commerce, as well as the establishment of top ten research and development labs and innovation centres, in order to position India as a technology leader over the next 25 years. "Let us all become job creators, and let us work together to strengthen India's manufacturing ecosystem," he urged.

Goyal stated that the government is considering a more flexible regulatory framework for the Drones sector, with the exception of defence equipment, and that the industry should strive to make India the Drones manufacturing hub. He advocated for quality to be integrated throughout the entire value chain, not only when the final product is manufactured. He emphasised the need of developing technological skills for tomorrow's economy and asked for academic courses to be reoriented to meet the "needs of today."
